Get started with Bettertext

This article shows you how to install Bettertext, connect it to your account and start using it on the sites where you write.

Install the extension

1. Open Bettertext in the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome.
2. Create a free account or sign in at app.bettertext.ai. You can use your email and password, or Google.
3. The extension connects to your account by itself. If it isn't connected, click the Bettertext toolbar icon and choose Sign in.

Keep Bettertext one click away:

1. Click the puzzle-piece Extensions menu in Chrome's toolbar.
2. Pin Bettertext.

The account card

Click the Bettertext toolbar icon to open a small account card on the page. It shows:

• Your name and your plan.
• A Ruler on <site> switch for the site you're on.
• Links to Dashboard, Settings and Sign out.

On Chrome's own pages (settings, new tab), the Chrome Web Store and the Bettertext app itself, the extension can't run. There you get a small popup instead.

Your first result

1. Highlight some text you wrote on any page.
2. The ruler appears above it.
3. Click an action, such as Improve.

Where it works

Bettertext works on any website where you can select text: email, social networks, forums, chat apps and documents. For example, Gmail, Facebook, X, Reddit, Quora, Discord and WhatsApp Web.

It does not run on Chrome's own pages, the Chrome Web Store or app.bettertext.ai.

Your privacy

Bettertext only reads the text you select, and only when you click an action.
